2014 PokerStars.net ANZPT Perth Main Event Day 1b: Mcallister Leads; Hinrichsen Lurks
The PokerStars.net Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) continued on Thursday at the Crown Perth Casino. It was Day 1b of the ANZPT Perth Main Event, and a very large field of 171 players meant a new record had been set as 256 total entrants to create a prize pool of AU$512,000. The eventual champion will pocket AU$131,900 while the top 27 will take home at least AU$4,100.
At the end of six 60-minute levels on Day 1b, 91 players had survived and Brian Mcallister was the chip leader with 103,175 in chips. Thats the only six-figure stack and more than enough to see Mcallister begin Day 2 as the overall leader. On Day 1a, Bernard Beh finished as the chip leader.

8 | David Lim | 66,475 |

Prominent Australian poker pro Andrew Hinrichsen was the closest player to Mcallister on Day 1b. He will head into Day 2 with 83,025 in chips. Hinrichsen has amassed just under $900,000 in tournament results over his career and is one of the few Australians to have won a World Series of Poker gold bracelet. Despite posting results in many different events around the world, Hinrichsen has never had too much success on his home turf. He will be looking to change that at the 2014 ANZPT Perth Main Event, though.
There were plenty of other players who finished with big stacks after Day 1b, including Cale Maclean, Luke Brabin, and Andrew Hullah. Also still alive include notable players such as ANZPT Auckland champion David Lim, WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Lim, Stev Lackovic, Minh Nguyen, Asj Taylor, Full Tilt Poker ANZPT Ambassador Tom Grigg, Dylan Honeyman, and James Broom, just to name a few. You can find the full end-of-day chip counts and the Day 2 seating draw in the ANZPT Perth live reporting blog.
After the hand-ruling controversy of Day 1a, the players on Day 1b were looking to get busy winning chips at the tables. One player who started the day very strongly was Andrew Hullah. Within the first hour of play, Hullah had over 80,000 in chips, which was more than the end-of-Day 1a chip leader. Most of those chips came when Hullah held the 3?3? and flopped a set on a 9?4?3? flop. He got all the chips in against a player who held the A?Q? for the nut-flush draw. The Q? turn and the 7? river were good for Hullah as he scooped the big pot. Hullah wasnt able to hold onto his entire stack for the rest of the night, though, but still bagged 68,875 in chips and enough to scare come Day 2.
While it wasnt early in the day, WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Lim also managed to flop a set and win a big pot. It was against fellow prominent Australian pro Honeyman and Lim held the 6?6? when all the chips went in on a 6?J?5? flop. Honeyman held the 7?5? and had Lim covered, but the 2? turn and 8? river meant Lim would win the pot and ultimately go on to finish the night with 63,750 in chips.
All of these players will be part of the 145 total who will be at the felt for the beginning of Day 2 on Friday. The PokerNews Live Reporting will once again be in the Crown Perth Poker Room, so be sure to return from 12:30 p.m. local time for continued ANZPT Perth live coverage.
