A Monkey Off Benthyo's Back

The WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Hammond $1,700 Main Event attracted a pleasingly round 900 entries, creating a less round prize pool of $1,363,500.
From that $1.4 million, $228,398 was earmarked for the first-place payout. And so was Evan Bethyo. Bethyo has been playing poker for a long time, with mixed results. But this time, it was his time.
"The monkey is off my back," he told the WSOP in his post win interview. "I've been grinding for a long time. Had a few final tables, a few big scores, but it was getting to the point where I just wanted the hardware. I wanted to be a champion more than I wanted the money."
Now he has the ring he's been looking for, having beaten John Reading heads up for the top spot. Reading won $152,272 for second place.
