Biography

Damian Salas is an Argentinian lawyer and poker player who won the hybrid live/online 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.

Having first defeated 674 players in the International leg of the WSOP Main Event for over $1.5 million, he defeated Joseph Hebert heads-up in Las Vegas to win $1,000,000 and the WSOP Main Event bracelet.

Biography

Salas was a regular on the South American poker scene during the early 2010s, cashing in Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile and Panama while also finding time to travel to Las Vegas and play at the WSOP. He came closest to winning a bracelet in 2016, finishing fifth in Event #50: $1,500 Shootout for $64,129.

The following year, Salas made it to another final table �� the 2017 WSOP Main Event final table. He began the final table sixth in chips, but fell in seventh place for $1,425,000.

Salas would continue to travel to play, both in South America and Europe, and as the pandemic forced poker online he started to rack up the cashes. He followed up a third-place finish in the WPT World Online Championship Main Event ($814,663) by winning the International leg of the 2020 WSOP Online Main Event.

Less than a month later, the Argentinian flag was once again draped over his shoulders as he battled it out in Las Vegas. After a back-and-forth heads-up match consisting of 173 hands, Salas came out as the winner and the latest WSOP Main Event champion.
