Demlakian Leads Stacked Snowfest Final Table
Another action-packed day of poker has seen us reach the final table of the 2012 PokerStars.net Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Queenstown Snowfest Main Event! Leading the final nine and in the best position to take home the title and the NZD$110,000 first-place prize is none other than the Day 1b chip leader, Ken Demlakian.
The penultimate day of play started around five hours ago when 31 players all had high hopes of making the final nine. It took just a few minutes to eliminate three players and from there, the eliminations kept flying fast and furiously. During the first level alone, six players were eliminated.
The early stages of the third level of the day would see 2009 APPT Sydney champion, Aaron Benton left crippled when he three-bet shoved holding and ran into Tatjana Zizics . Benton was left with just a couple of big blinds after that and was eliminated a short while later when he ran into Ricky Kroesens .
It was also during the third level of the day that we reached the money bubble. First it was Billy Argyros who was eliminated in dramatic fashion two spots off the money and then after around half an hour of hand-for-hand play, Michael Kanaan was sent home as the bubble boy.
Kanaan had a roller coaster afternoon, first losing a huge chunk of his stack in a cooler situation when he lost set vs. set against Ken Demlakian. It would then be Demlakian who sealed Kanaans fate, with Demlakian rivering a set after Kanaan got it in good on the flop holding two pair.
With the bubble burst, the 15 remaining players were guaranteed a NZD$7,050 min-cash. The first few in-the-money eliminations occurred quickly, with Jason OBrien going home in 15th place, Tatjana Zizic in 14th and Michael Fadersen in 13th. David Wonson was then eliminated in 12th place and only 11 remained.
Play was starting to slow down a bit at this point, with the prospect of making the final table fresh in the players minds. Eventually it was Stewart Ballard who was eliminated in 11th place, followed by Chiu Yeung Lee in 10th.
With that, let us introduce to you, the 2012 ANZPT Queenstown Snowfest Final Table! Leading the charge is Demlakian, but he is followed closely by Jordan Westmorland and David Zhao.
