DraftKings King of the Beach
Day 3 Completed
DraftKing's first-ever King of the Beach certainly had its share of excitement on Sunday. A total of 50 entries competed for a $1 million top prize at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, and it came down the the final game of the day to determine the champion.
Ayton Jankowitz and Aaron Merchak, the two minds behind the "Kobe4MVP" account on DraftKings, put together the winning lineup and pocketed the $1 million top prize. Jankowitz and Merchak rostered Seattle's combo of Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin, as well as a great running back tandem of LeVeon Bell and C.J. Anderson, to finish the event with 193.92 points. A Wilson-to-Baldwin touchdown late in the game pushed "Kobe4MVP" past Ben "Comox_Warrior" Burns and into the lead.
Burns finished second in the tournament for a hefty prize of $350,000, and Branden "yourfavwhiteguy" Hampton finished third for $200,000.
That does it for our coverage of the DraftKings King of the Beach. Be sure to check out all of our photos and videos from a fun-filled week at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort! For more coverage of the evening's festivities check out DraftKings TV.
The two-man team behind "Kobe4MVP" have charged up the leaderboard during the late games to take over the lead in the King of the Beach, and it doesn't look like anyone is going to catch them. Russell Wilson's third-quarter touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin sealed it for Ayton Jankowitz and Aaron Merchak, who are already receiving congratulations from many of the players here at the Aura Nightclub.
Here's a live look at the scoreboard with only a few minutes remaining in the Eagles-Seahawks games.
We will have another interview with the champions and complete highlights of the winner's ceremony later this evening. Thanks for following along!
The tension is building here at the Aura Nightclub. Ben "Comox_Warrior" Burns is still leading the way with his 191.24 points, but Branden "yourfavwhiteguy" Hampton and Matt "okstatepdt" Vessier are making up ground with the Denver Broncos defense pummeling the Buffalo Bills offense.
Also climbing is the two-man tandem behind the "Kobe4MVP" account. Ayton Jankowitz and Aaron Merchak? are sitting in fourth place at the moment and still have Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin and C.J. Anderson playing in the late game. We spoke with both of them during halftime of the Seahawks-Eagles game to find out how they're feeling.
Nine NFL games down, four to go. Ben "Comox_Warrior" Burns had three shots at a million dollars in this event, and one of them is leading the way after the first set of games. Burns scored 191.24 points behind huge efforts from A.J. Green, Matthew Stafford, Jonathan Stewart and Calvin Johnson, and now he's the man to catch in the first-ever DraftKings King of the Beach competition.
We interviewed Burns shortly after the 1 p.m. games ended and will be posting that shortly. Understandably, with $1 million on the line, he's very nervous about how this is going to play out.
Ben "Comox_Warrior" Burns is the new leader heading into the fourth quarter of the early games. Behind a massive effort from Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green, Burns has a 25-point lead over the next closest competitor, Branden "yourfavwhiteguy" Hampton.
Check out the LIVE leaderboard at DraftKings.com.
Branden "yourfavwhiteguy" Hampton was leading when the first set of games his the halfway point. Hampton rode a huge half from Odell Beckham and Charles Johnson to a slim lead over Ben "Comox_Warrior" Burns, and he also got nice halves out of his Bell running back combo LeVeon and Joique.
Hampton, a social media guru who was named by Forbes as the #1 influential person on Twitter, spoke with us during halftime about his lineup and the experience of a live final.
What kind of routine do the best daily fantasy football players use to create their winning lineups? We asked King of the Beach contestants Drew Dinkmeyer, Peter Jennings, Branden Hampton and Erik Hafner about their lineup building process.
